Languages
All classes from Years 1 to 5 at Mount Martha PS participate in Japanese language lessons for one hour per fortnight. As well as one hour fortnightly lessons, students in Year 6 learn Japanese and Indonesian through the ILPIC (Innovative Learning Program in Clusters) program with Dromana Secondary College. This entails weekly 45-minute lessons, with language lessons via video-link or with language teacher and native assistant each fortnight.
Japanese is taught via teacher instruction, language videos, songs and games. Students apply that knowledge during conversation activities, listening tasks, team quizzes, games and written activities. Classes are given the opportunity to learn about the Japanese writing system and also learn about Japanese culture, such as annual festivals and origami. Students are encouraged to participate through interactive, cooperative-based learning activities.
Topics studied at each year level in Japanese.
